Billy Davis' vast musical experiences have literally spanned the globe. Growing up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Billy began his professional career while still in high school, performing for school dances and weddings. He then honed his talents by studying saxophone, voice and jazz at Indiana University. For over 30 years, Billy D has been one of the Midwest's most in-demand saxophone artists, performing with top national jazz performers including Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker, Eddie Daniels and Bob Mintzer. He has opened for Chicago, Hall & Oates, Eric Clapton, and The Beach Boys, just to name a few. Billy's vocal and saxophone talents have been showcased with some of the Midwest's most popular bands... Madness, Akasha, Daugherty, Davis & McPartland. In 1991, Daugherty, Davis & McPartland were appointed to be Ambassadors of Culture for the State of Iowa. In this capacity, Billy performed for audiences across North America and overseas, including a performance tour in the Soviet Union. In 2005, Billy and fellow FunkDaddies bandmember, Billylee Janey, received two Grammy nominations for their album "Compakt Three" in Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Popular Instrumental categories. Billy's exciting on-stage style and musical virtuosity help make FunkDaddies the Midwest's Hippest Band. |
